IN LOVING MEMORY OF ELIZABETH HULME

JANUARY 2, 1967 – JANUARY 13, 2021

Elizabeth Hulme, or Lizzie as she was known to friends, peacefully passed away after her 16 month battle with cancer on January 13, 2021 at the age of 54 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Elizabeth was born in Indio, CA on January 2, 1967 and is predeceased by her parents Isabel and Santiago Reyes. She will be buried at White Haven Memorial Park.

She met her husband Allen in San Onofre, CA in 1988 and they were married on March 17, 1989. Together the two moved from Southern California to Rochester, NY in 1992 where they raised their two sons. Lizzie loved traveling, scuba diving, and attending concerts. She was a natural when it came to learning how to scuba dive and her greatest joy was being able to swim underwater with the love of her life. She loved the music of the Grateful Dead and Moe. and would always attend concerts when she could get the chance.

She found her calling in life when she received her nursing degree from Monroe Community College. She spent her life working as a nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital where she cared deeply for her patients. She is remembered fondly by her nursing family for bringing them many laughs and smiles and always willing to lend a hand.

Lizzie is survived by her loving husband, Allen, and her two beautiful boys, Richard and David.

Her funeral service will be held at the North Chili United Methodist Church on February 13, 2021 at 11 AM. Attendance will be restricted to only the invited due to COVID restrictions but the services will be streamed online through the church’s website (http://www.umcnorthchili.org/).

Thanksgiving of 2019 was literally the best thanksgiving of my life with Liz and her wonderful family here in Stockton California. So full of life, you (Liz) rubbed my daughter Selena’s feet till she slept. We sang Bohemian Rhapsody and played games. We love you forever over here from the Ramírez-Arroyo family. My condolences to the family. Richard, Dave and Alan.

To Liz’ family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember liz when she came to work in the ICU. She orientated on our unit because her unit wasn’t open yet. She was so excited. Liz was great to work with, always so kind and helpful! Any time I came to her unit she alway greeted me with a smile. She will be greatly missed.

Our cousin is a beautiful and loving person who we will dearly miss. I remember meeting her for the first time when she was a little girl; she was so, excited to see new cousins for the first time. Every spring, we would visit our aunt, uncle, and Liz; we played together and watched her grow over the years. She was excited and full of starry eyes telling us how she fell in love with a young man named Allen; and then got to meet him for the first time to celebrate their marriage. My wife, Helen, and Liz, hit it off great from the start. Helen, who is also a registered nurse, remembers when Liz called saying she wanted to be a nurse; to embrace a career that helped others. Helen and Liz would stay in touch long distance to see how Liz’ nursing school and training was coming along, congratulating phone calls when Liz became a nurse; and continued through the years trading nursing experience stories either by phone or when we were able to visit each other. Allen, Richard, David, we’ll miss Liz greatly and we will hold on to wonderful memories. We hope to see you and hug you all once this terrible COVID pandemic is over. Our love, Mike, Helen, Danielle, and Kristi.

I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Liz only for a relatively short time that we worked on the same unit at Strong, but she was so welcoming to me as a new nurse on the unit and I could easily see how beloved she was both by all the other staff members and her patients. Her heart was truly full of love and she shared it with everyone around her. I know that you all must be struggling to deal with this loss, but she will always be with you in your hearts an memories and in those of the many many people she touched in her lifetime. She was a wonderful person who shone a positive light on the lives of so many people during her time on this earth.

We first met Liz when we visited my brother Jim and sister in-law, Isabel. Liz was so happy to see us even though we had not seen them in awhile. She was so full of life always a happy child. They had a little dog, Orphie, she loved that little dog and Orphie was very attached to her. We kept in touch throughout the years, her mom would send pictures of the various activities she was involved especially dancing. Liz was a very happy child, every so often she visited us in Northern California, she loved going to Santa Cruz, California. She became friends with one of our neighbors, she never met a stranger. As the years went by she met the love of her life, Allen. We attended her wedding, such a loving and handsome couple. They blessed us with two nephews, Richard then David. She loved her nursing career and from our conversations had special feelings for the elderly patients. We will miss Liz, such a wonderful niece.

    Dear Allen, Richard, and David,
I am a specialist physician at the University/SMH and although I hadn’t recently seen Lizzie, I worked alongside her for years. I always enjoyed seeing her when I was responsible for rounding in her unit. She had a wonderful, light-hearted, team-oriented, and generous spirit at work. She was kind to co-workers, families, and friends. She was a hard worker. You probably know all these things, but I thought you would want to know what a wonderful PERSON she was at work. I send love to you in your loss and wish you a deep sense of shalom. On a funny note, in all the years we knew each other (> 10), I never knew she loved to dive. So weird. I have been doing it all my life and it would have been fun to share stories with her.
