Shirley A. Homsey

Shirley Homsey - Greece, NY - Rochester Cremation

October 23, 2021: Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Moore and her brother David Deland. She is survived by the love of her life, husband Edward B. Homsey; daughter, Susan Homsey; son, David Homsey; son-in-law John Ernisse; daughter-in-law, Susan Wildemann Homsey; and granddaughters, Laura Homsey, Emma Homsey and Sarah Homsey.

Shirley loved her family dearly, and her granddaughters were especially cherished. She and Ed were married for 66 years and were inseparable.

Shirley was an avid golfer, winning club championships at Durand Eastman Women’s Association and Stafford Country Club. In her 20s, she was a champion rally car driver, with Ed as her navigator. She also loved bowling, with a high game of 253, and for many years was a dedicated runner. She had command in the kitchen, delighting the family with her famous pancakes, incredible Thanksgiving meals and her mastery of the art of Middle Eastern grape leaves, taught by Ed’s Syrian family. Despite these skills, there was nothing she loved more than a Bill Gray’s cheeseburger. Shirley enjoyed a good jigsaw puzzle and nobody could solve the D&C Jumble quicker.

Shirley was a graduate of West Irondequoit High School and received a BFA from RIT, where she furthered her love of art.

When her children got older, she worked as a special education teacher’s aide, first at BOCES #2 and then for many years in Greece Central School District.

In lieu of flowers, Shirley’s family asks donations be made in her name to The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.

Shirley’s cherished friends are invited to a private reception on October 31, 2021 from 2-4pm at Bernard’s Grove Restaurant, 187 Long Pond Road, Rochester, NY 14612, a very special place in Shirley and Ed’s hearts.
