Richard “Hal” Kemp

Richard “Hal” Kemp - Rochester Cremation

Rochester, NY: August 3, 2023, at age 81, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Hal is survived by his Sister Cheryl (Bud); Brother Guy (Dianne); Children Chris (Sharon), Brenden (Tracy), and Ryan (Jessica); grandchildren Stephen, Nicholas (Lily), Liam, Rowan, and Harrison; great-granddaughter Hope; Nephews Shawn (Anna), Darren, and Jeremy; and Niece Shannon (Brien).

Hal grew up in Canada and became a master electrician. He came to Rochester, NY, in 1967. He was an insurance agent for many years but was really a jack of all trades. He was an avid collector of many great treasures; cars, pianos, organs, and guitars are just a few things he loved to own. He was a musician in his younger years and still loved playing music. He loved to chat with people and get to know them, as well as tell them his stories. If you knew Hal, you would see him working at his office in his overalls and engineer’s hat. Even if you had never spoken to him, you probably saw him out working.

Hal will be missed by many, especially his close friends Jason and Mike. He lived a very full life and enjoyed time with his family, friends, and his very special puppy doodles, especially Blue, who went to the rainbow bridge before him but is with him now.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Golisanos Children’s Hospital. A Celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 11, from 2-4 at the White Haven Memorial Chapel, 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, NY 14534.

We will miss thinking Hal is out there sailing a catamaran, daily washing that yellow Corvette, playing his 12 string guitar, or just smiling at his latest story to share. Always the charmer!
