Betty L. Gilroy passed away Sept. 02, 2023 at the age of 99 in Fairport, NY.
She was predeceased by her husband of many years, Thomas Gilroy, and her brothers Charles and Frank Ferrell.
She was a coal miner’s daughter, born in Reynoldsville, WV to Raymie & Edith (Burdiss) Ferrell.
Betty Ferrell was a graduate of Washington Irving High School, class of 1942.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, baking, shopping and reading. She and Tom especially loved their trips to Maine, visiting relatives in Lewiston and Buckfield and spending time at Old Orchard Beach. Betty lived her life with grace, dignity and pride. She had great respect for herself and others. She has said many times over the years that she felt blessed and truly grateful for the wonderful life she has had.
In her later years she had a constant companion in her little chihuahua Max. She enjoyed talking on the phone and her visits with family from Western NY, Massachusetts, Ohio and Maine.
She is survived by her children Cheryl Hite Brustin and Clifford B. Higgins, her grandchildren Tamara Furlan, Deidre Hall, Jason Higgins and Sabrina Whitlock, her great grandchildren Justin, Wesley, Emma, Clara, Alisa, Jack, Mackenzie and Makenna, her great-great grandchildren Caleb and Gianna, and several nieces and nephews.
Betty and Tom’s ashes will be placed together at Parish Cemetery at The Green in Middleboro, MA.
