Mark Alexander Purdell

Rochester, NY:  Passed away January 8, 2019 at age 64. Predeceased by his loving father Edward. Survived by his mother Betty; loving wife Donna; sons Sam and Joey; sister Martha (Kevin) McGowan and nephew Craig. Besides his family, Mark leaves a network of co-workers past and present, a close knit cadre of card playing friends and his true legacy, a soccer community that will forever be grateful for his friendship.

Donna and their two sons were always paramount in Mark’s life; he took tremendous pride in their various accomplishments and milestones.

After Mark earned his MBA from RIT, he embarked on a successful career, holding positions such as Property Manager, Controller and CFO at local companies, including Wilmorite and Mark IV. Mark challenged ideas intently, regardless of his position on the matter, ensuring the convictions of his peers were as intact as his own. He brought the best out of the people around him, at work or on the soccer pitch. Wherever he worked, he created and maintained friendships with his co-workers, staying in touch with many of them long after their common employment ended.

Soccer played an integral role in Mark’s life. An original member of the Irondequoit Fall Soccer League, he captained numerous indoor teams over the years. He was founder and captain of the Silver Chiefs Football Club, an organization that turned teammates into family, players into brothers. His style of captaining was as a moral champion; he instilled in everyone a sense of fair play and sportsmanship; winning the game should never be more important than being a good teammate or friend. His teammates on the Silver Chiefs FC honored him with enshrinement onto their Ball of Fame last November, recognizing his influence and ensuring his presence in all Awards Banquets to come.

There will be a celebration of Mark’s life to be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to an organization that supports nature and the outdoor beauty of Western New York.
