Gene was 80 years young on the day of his passing. He enjoyed his life to the fullest and had no regrets. He lived his name, Funny, Loving, Open to just about anything, Young at heart and Devoted to the people he loved. Gene was loved by many and he will always be in our hearts. In his lifetime he was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, great uncle, great great uncle, cousin and friend.
Gene spent his final days at Shepherd Home surrounded by family and friends that he loved and who loved him. It is a wonderful place and he was content. He said, and I quote “I like this place, it’s really nice” As for all the wonderful caring volunteers, we cannot say enough about your kindness and the care you took of him in his final days. Thank you, Ashley, Adam and the crew.
One of the things he was very proud of was his military service and that he was a Veteran. He was a Harley riding Navy man. He was stationed out of Norfolk Virginia. Served on two ships, his favorite being the transport ship. He said he had a lot of fun on that ship. He served from 1955-1963. Gene was honorably discharged.
Gene was born and raised in Rochester, NY. He moved to Fairport NY in the late 1980’s resided there for over 31 years, he loved his little canal town. Retired from Xerox after 30+ years. Liked sports, loved the Buffalo Bills, and he was a diehard fan, so he knew how to take disappointment in stride and to be always hopeful.
Gene always had a joke, some funnier than others, he really enjoyed making people laugh and he was good at it. He made friends easily wherever he went.
Let’s not forget about ABBOTTS ice cream. He loved taking people to Charlotte for an ice cream. It was a wonderful memory for some of the younger family members. They still talk about trips to Abbotts. Banana flavored anyone? That was one of his favorites.
Oh, and we can’t forget about how much he enjoyed going to the Finger Lakes Casino. He loved to play the slots, he would walk you around and show you all the new slots and his favorites of course. Then, he would instruct us on the best way to play them. I must not have heard the part about winning, but Pogo sure did.
For sure, everyone has their own favorite memories of uncle Gene. So, remember them, share them and celebrate the life of a man who lived his well and as he said many times with no regrets.
Gene is survived by:
Sister Eldora M Grant, Guy T Grant (Deborah), Dennis E Grant (Monica),
Robin L Batterson (Mike), Terry J Grant (Dawn) numerous nephews and nieces and cousins.
He is also survived by his special lady Bets (Elizabeth Monroe) his best friend for over 25 years. He loved her very much.
He is predeceased by:
His parents Dennis Brumfield and Thelma Zimmer Brumfield, Brother Clyde D Brumfield, Sister Rosa F Pearson, John (Jack) Grant and Tracy P Grant.
His wife of 33 years Vella Brumfield (April 2, 1993) and Stepson Anthony Bovenzi.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. Gene was my elderly father’s neighbor for many years and always kept an eye on him. I came to know him during my extended stay at my father’s. I miss him greatly. Always friendly, always a smile and hug. He was a very caring man. Gone too fast and way too soon.

He lived in the same building as my father and helped out when needed.
He will be missed.
Gene was a wonderful man. I’ve known him for over 30 years. My whole family loved Gene for his kindness and outgoing personality. He was my mother’s soul mate for 30 years. The patience and love he showed her was beyond anything I have ever seen. I will miss the great times I had watching tv in his condo on the most comfortable couch in the world. We all lost a terrific man that will never be replaced.
Remembering all the laughs and good times we had in Florida on vacation. FAMILY,Fishing,and laughing all the way and oh yes…who got the best tan. We loved you then and will love and miss you forever.

We will sadly miss a very good man with that beautiful sense of humor. Condolences to all of Gene’s Friends and Family.
I must comment on how kind Floyd was. My mom and dad played the slots at Finger Lakes Casino. They became friends with Floyd as he was an active member there. When my dad passed away, my mom stopped attending the casino.
Floyd convinced her that my dad would want her to go on and live life to the fullest. For quite some time, she played the slots with Floyd, winning often from his advice. He made her laugh with his jokes and funny stories. She will miss Floyd, but is grateful for the memories and time spent with him, as will everyone else at the casino.
