Antonia Ilona Hernady Kapzynski

Antonia Hernady Kapzynski, 90, of Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family on February 5, 2025. She was born on March 29, 1934, to Gyorgy and Ilona Kozari in Erteny, Hungary. She is survived by her son, Eric (Diane) and her grandchildren, Lindsay and Grant Hernady.

Antonia grew up in Hungary during the second World War. Her parents were educators in her local school. She attended college and engineering school in Budapest in the early 1950’s. There she earned her degree in architectural engineering. In the fall of 1956 Hungary descended into revolution, and Antonia escaped to Austria before emigrating to the United States. She and her first husband, Bert F. Hernady, were relocated to Cleveland, OH and gave birth to their first child, Beatrice (deceased). After moving to Detroit, MI, she gave birth to her second child, Eric. Later in life she married Frank Kapzynski with whom she spent 25 wonderful years before his passing in 2012.

Antonia was introduced to arts and literature from all over the world at a young age. She continued to enjoy traveling throughout her life. Antonia was an excellent student and was fluent in three languages. She had many interests including earning her real estate license, managing clothing stores, working in an art gallery, and working for Gannett Newspapers. In addition to her professional achievements, Antonia had real talents in the kitchen. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends. She shared her love of Hungarian and French cuisine and learned how to adapt her cooking to numerous other ethnic food styles.

Antonia was a loving mother, friend, and confidant. She was fiercely protective of her family and closest friends. She was the type of person one always loved having in their corner. Her sacrifice, support, and love will be missed, and it leaves an unfillable gap in the hearts of those closest to her.
