Rochester, NY, passed away on February 20th, 2015, at 88 years of age. She lived a full life, rich in many, many friendships, and the love of those she brought into her family.
Trained as a nurse at Syracuse University School of Nursing, she worked for several local agencies…Hillside Children’s Center, Monroe County Health Department, Project Headstart, Threshold Center, Rochester City School District, and Easter Seals Respite Care (to name just some). She continued to work, part time, for Easter Seals, until the time of her death.
Not content to limit her contributions, she was an active volunteer: Monroe Avenue Methodist Church, Rochester Psychiatric Center, Monroe Developmental Center/Monroe Players, Western New York Child Care Council, Parents Anonymous, and–most recently–MC Correctional Center-Henrietta.
Although her passion was helping others, Betty had time for friends, an extended (and eclectic) family, reading, walking, and daily exercise. She was a loyal fan of the “Amerks” Hockey Team, and “Watkins Rapiers” musical group.
Many people adopted themselves into her life, and she embraced them with equal love and acceptance.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Hupp. She is (most immediately) survived by Robert Hupp, John Simmons, Terry Allen, MaRina Simmons, Thomas Jürgens, and Harold Torrey; and additionally, by all who were touched by her warmth and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s name may be made to “Easter Seals Respite Care Program,” 103 White Spruce Blvd, Rochester, NY 14623.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held on 13 June, 2015. (Please email bash4bth@gmail.com for specific information).
