Rochester, NY: Carrie Lou Wilson 7-14-1938 to 8-18-2020
Carrie was born in Winnsboro, South Carolina July 14, 1938 to Mr. Monroe Bookman and Ms. Cora Harris.
She passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 quietly with family and friends by her side. She is predeceased by husband James Wilson S., daughter Mae Brooks, sons Frank Wilson and James Wilson II, along with 2 children who died while babies and grandson Marcus Brooks who Carrie raised after her daughter Mae passed away.
She is survived by daughter-in-law Joanne, grandchildren Jamnita, Cecelia, Altravice, Nadia, Jamesy, and Jakimbri, and a host of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Upon her arrival to Rochester, Carrie was employed at an optical company in the early 60’s and at the Rochester Psychiatric Center during the 70’s. She also assisted her husband in running a secondhand furniture store. Carrie had a passion for shopping, garage sales and finding a good deal. Even during the final days of her life while on the way to doctors visits, she never missed a garage sale sign.
Yet above all Carrie had a tremendous love for Jehovah God and made sure her children and grandchildren had that love instilled in their hearts. Carrie was able to serve as a full-time servant of Jehovah for a while and even during her illness she always took opportunities to speak of Jehovah to her neighbors and those who assisted her.
Carrie will always be remembered for her gatherings. She loved to invite friends and family to her home for dinner and loved cooking for her spiritual brothers and sisters. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her dirty rice, sweet potatoes, rice pilaf, and turkey gravy.
She will be truly missed during her “sleep” but it will only be for a little while because that beautiful resurrection hope is ‘just around the corner’. A letter written by Carrie was found after her passing which read “My strength has always been my trust in Jehovah God.” “How grand the resurrection union will be… that keeps me going.” And “His word never fails.” We look forward to this reunion as well. In the meantime, we will deeply miss our strong and beautiful “mom”, “grandma” and “friend”.
I don’t know how to say Goodbye
So, I’ll say Thankyou
Without a word you became my Mom at 13
My world, My Queen
My everything
Because of you, I finish school
Because of you, I know I’ll always get through
You put God Jehovah in my life as the one to rule
But somehow, I’m still wondering what I’m gonna do
As you take a rest, I’ll remember you left an
Imprint of strength, showing us you never
failed as along as you do your very best.
As I’m missing your face
I’ll carry your grace
Remembering, in me forever you will stay
My heart, my hero, my reason for fighting everyday
I’ll give my all with the time I have left
Letting your lessons guide my steps
I’m grateful and proud to have come from you
My turn to lift your memory in everything I Do!!!
I love you Grandma,
Ms. Altravice Brooks
