Charles “Morgan” Butcher (1945 – 2024)

Morgan, 79, of York, Pennsylvania, passed away after a courageous fight against Leukemia on May 22, 2024.

He was born in York, PA, graduating from Red Lion Area High School in the class of 1963.  Morgan then attended Catawba College and Shippensburg University, graduating with a Master’s Degree.  From there Morgan served 2 years in the U.S. Army including completion of Officer Candidate School.  Following his service, Morgan became a lifelong educator teaching at Kennard-Dale and York Vo-Tech High Schools.  After retirement, he continued to teach, tennis at Florida Institute of Technology.

Predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth Butcher, his stepmother, Madelene Butcher, brothers Horace Gibson and David Butcher, brother in-law Ed Heisler, and his son Brock Butcher.

Morgan is survived by his companion in life, Judith Butcher of York, PA.  His daughter, Beth and son in-law Dave O’May of Rochester, NY.  His stepson, Erik Harr of York, PA.  Grandchildren, Jakob, Tavish and Marley O’May, Mackenzie and Ethan Harr.  His sister, Ann Heisler of Red Lion, PA.  His sister in-law Nancy Gibson.  His niece Hope Williams, nephews Daniel and Michael Heisler.

Following his retirement from teaching in Pennsylvania, Morgan lived the beach life in Indialantic, Florida.  He enjoyed spending his time surfing, fishing, playing tennis, biking, and socializing with friends.  From there he returned home to York to be closer to his family.  Morgan spent the final years of life, playing tennis with a close group of friends, walking his beloved dog Rene, and simply enjoying life.
