On August 4th 2020, Christel R. Joehler passed away silently at about 11:30pm in Rochester, NY at the ripe old age of 95. She had a very long and eventful life growing up in Hitler’s Germany and then experiencing the Russian capture of Berlin. She was surprised by how the same news stories could be reported so differently by a free press. In 1954 she immigrated to the United States with her husband Klaus and first child Thomas. They lived for a short time in Chicago, and then moved to Rochester, NY where her second child Catherine Susan was born. She worked for a short time as a drafts woman, but then became a full time mom to raise her 2 kids. In 1978, she moved along with her husband to Orlando FL, where she remained until 2008 when she moved back to Rochester, NY to be near her daughter in Greece.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996 and is survived by her two children Thomas and Catherine Susan Mitchell and her 3 grandchildren Marissa Joehler, Daniel Mitchell and Andrew Mitchell.
She had a special love of Nature and a philosophy of free thought. She enjoyed Traveling throughout the world including: all over Europe and to Russia, throughout the US and Canada including Alaska and Hawaii, to South America, through the Panama Canal, and to New Zealand and Australia. However her favorite place to go was still her simple cottage on the shores of Devil Lake in Ontario, Canada. She also enjoyed painting, especially landscapes and nature. But one of her favorite past times that she never lost interest in was her love of reading and books.
Her final years were marked by the effects of Alzheimer’s disease but she kept a positive spirit through it all.
