Rochester NY: September 30, 2016.  Predeceased by his daughter Jennifer. Survived by his wife, Bettie; sons, Stephen (Ardis) and Joel; stepsons Charles (Jeanne), Kevin (Theresa) and Stephen (Jill) Fitzpatrick; and eleven grandchildren: Sarah, Kidder, Maris, Addison, London, Sean, Margaret, Emily, Daniel, Caitlin, and Alison. He is also survived by brothers, Jonathan and Mark.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Chris attended Cornell University, where he obtained a B.A. in history and his Ph.D. He came to Rochester in 1960 with his then-wife Joyce (née Halsey) to teach history at the University of Rochester, where he remained for seven years. He became involved in local politics and was elected to City Council in 1971. After serving twelve years on Council, Chris was appointed Deputy Mayor, serving in that capacity for five years.

A Memorial Service will be held at City Hall on Saturday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jennifer Grimes Lindley Scholarship at the Rochester Area Community Foundation, 500 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607.
