Brighton, NY. Age 88. Beloved uncle of Michael and Jacqueline Hagelberg and Frank and Ellen Hagelberg. Great Uncle to Robert and Jacqueline Moe Hagelberg , David and Leah Hagelberg, Julia and Kyle Mullins and Daniel and Emily Hagelberg and Great-great Uncle to Ari Hagelberg and Ya’Ara Hagelberg.
Predeceased by his wife, Laura who was the love of his life.
Claude was born in Germany and grew up in Switzerland. After World War II he moved to New York City with his mother to be reunited with his brother Henry and sister in law Beatrice. In less than two years his National Guard unit was called up and he found himself in Fort Stewart Georgia and eventually in Korea during the war.
Claude always said that he had a wonderful life and that he was always so lucky to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends. Claude saw the best in everyone. Wherever he was Claude was always able to easily make friends.
Claude worked in New York City in the hosiery and glove business and travelled the world for both business and pleasure. Some of his favorite trips were to Switzerland where he maintained lifelong friendships with his friends from high school, and to Africa and the Far East.
After retirement form the hosiery business Claude became a mediator for the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office and was the New Jersey District Director for S.C.O.R.E.
Claude moved to Rochester two years ago to be near family and resided at The Summit in Brighton. The family would like to thank the residents and staff at the Summit who took an instant liking to Claude and quickly made him feel at home.
The family also thanks the people who gave such loving care to Claude including his aide, Terry Boardman and his Nurse Practitioner, Carolyn McElhinney.
The Burial will be on Sunday February 26 at B’nai Jeshuran Cemetery in Elizabeth New Jersey.
There will be a reception for friends and family on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 4 pm to 6 pm at The Summit, 1200 Summit Circle Drive Rochester, NY 14618.
