Elaine Elizabeth Kent passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 80. Elaine is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Wayne L. Kent; sons Wayne M. (Zoë) Kent and Aaron (Jody) Kent; grandchildren Briana (Jake), Ethan, Liam, Adrianna, Jonathan, Robert, Sarah, Samuel, and Ezekiel; great-grandchildren Aidan, Caleb, Genevieve, and Logan; her brother Roy (Lisa); sister Karen (David); niece Sheila McMann and numerous other nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her father, Burt Hinkley, her mother, Ruth Hinkley, and her brother, Burt (Jim) Hinkley.
Elaine had many hobbies, amongst them gardening, reading (especially Stephen King), quilting, preserving jams and jelly, and baking. Everyone loved Elaine’s baking! From the holiday cookies to her incredible cakes, she credits her baking skills to her predeceased sister-in-law Dorothy (Dotty) Kent.
She was a dedicated quilter. She made dozens of quilts and blankets for her children and grandchildren, as well as other family members. She was a member of a local quilting group and even owned a quilt shop for a brief period.
For many of these hobbies Elaine leveraged her skill in them to help others, both in the family and in the community. Every year she would join the kitchen crew for the church’s annual Arts & Crafts show. She would knit hats for cancer patients and made comfort quilts for childhood victims of domestic violence.
Along with her husband, Elaine turned the house they bought on Alfonso Dr. into an incredible home that was open to all, and everyone who walked in felt her love. She always had a smile on her face and consistently put the needs of others above her own. Elaine was known for her feisty attitude. All of the neighborhood kids knew the rules of her house, and she wasn’t afraid to knock them back in line when needed.
Elaine enjoyed many things; however, it was time spent with family that she loved the most. She was a devoted wife and mother who lived every moment of her life selflessly. She’ll be forever missed. Rest in peace, Mom.
