Elsa L. Beach

d. August 27, 2016

(Hardwicke-Sullivan) Pittsford NY: Passed away August 27, 2016 with her daughter by her side. Pre-deceased by her husband, John C. Beach, and her sister, Eileen M. Sullivan. Survived by her daughter, Cynthia Beach-Smeltzer, son-in-law Matthew Smeltzer, and granddaughter, Victoria Smeltzer.

Originally from London, England, Elsa graduated from the Roedean School and the University of London. She moved to Rochester when John became Vice President of Graflex Corp. Elsa was an avid volunteer in the community, involved with the English-Speaking Union, the WXXI Auction, the Rochester Philharmonic League, the Memorial Art Gallery, Twig, and RIT. She and good friend Nancy Robbins chaired the operation of the Opportunity Shop—the fundraising arm of the Woman’s Educational and Industrial Union—the proceeds from which provided college scholarships to many young women. After moving to Florida, she was involved with the Burroughs Home & Gardens and the Southwest Florida Symphony in Fort Myers. She returned to Rochester with her family 7 years ago.

Services held privately per her wishes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beach/Sullivan Education Endowment, Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Ave., Rochester, NY 14607, Attn: Joseph Carney.
