Eugene Richard Henn

d. January 24, 2017

Eugene Richard Henn, 71, of Brighton, NY, died in Strong Memorial Hospital on January 24, 2017, of a catastrophic brain bleed.  He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Catherine Spencer Henn, and their employees in Better Power, Inc.  Eugene, son of Richard Winthrop Henn and Carol Fraser Henn who predeceased him, is survived by son David Henn (Alicia Doty), and two granddaughters, Stassa and Lydia, of Fayetteville, NY, and two foster daughters, Lal Ram Hngak (Rosy), and Van Nei Mawi (Daduh) of Brighton, NY, formerly of Hakha State in Myanmar (Burma).  Also survived by brother Robert L. Henn (Rebecca Walsh), of Mill Valley, CA, and sister Judith Henn Nordhagen (Martin) of Snowmass Village, CO, and six nephews and nieces:

Johnnemann Nordhagen, of San Francisco, CA; Stella Nordhagen of Dakar, Senegal; Matthew Henn of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada; Andrew Henn of San Rafael, CA; Laura Henn of Alameda, CA; and Christopher Henn who is attending Reed College, Portland, OR.

Always an entrepreneur, Eugene in the 1960’s and 1970’s built from his garage an Amway direct distributorship called Prosperity Consultants, and in 1992 with Cathy Henn he formed Prosperity Lighting Supply, Inc., a wholesale lighting distribution business.  In 2003 he and Cathy pioneered Better Power, Inc., a generator wholesale distribution business, which supplies both independent contractors and many nonprofit organizations through a New York State contract.  In 2013 Better Power, Inc., moved out of the Henn garage into 508 White Spruce Blvd., in Brighton, NY, where it will continue under Cathy’s direction.

Eugene loved giving, mainly to indigenous Christian missionaries and to his local church, Joy Community Church.  He also loved reading, mountain climbing, hiking/bushwhacking, jokes and especially puns, playing cornet, flugelhorn and shofar, listening to brass music, and worshipping God.

His cremated remains will be buried both in the Grove Place Cemetery on Marshall Road in Chili, and in Ouray, Colorado, where his father was born.
