James ” Jim” Mayer

d. August 1, 2017

James “Jim” Mayer, 71, of Rochester NY, succumbed to lung cancer surrounded by his family on August 1, 2017.  Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife Marie, parents Rhea and Jules and his brother Timothy.  He is survived by his two sons, James (Wendy) Mayer, Michael Mayer; daughter-in-law, Amy (Mike) Mayer-Holtfoth; grandchildren, Paulina, Landon, Ava & Madison, Janelle (Willie), Tara (Charles); great-granddaughter, Violet Hope; brother, George (Beverly) Mayer; nieces Jennifer Abbott, Krystle Abbott and nephews Alexander (AJ) Abbott, Donald (Bud) Abbott. Jim was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend to all.
Jim loved sports and was a forever loyal St Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings fan. He always enjoyed taking in high school football games and puttering around the golf course.  During his free time, he was a staple customer at Starbucks while keeping his mind sharp with crossword puzzles.
Jim worked for 30 years and ultimately retired from the Genesee Brewery in 2001; then worked part time at Wegmans in Pittsford NY until 2017.
A special thank you to his “Wegmans Family”, particularly Tracy Wilmot, for your endless love for Jim. Also thank you to the staff at Strong Memorial Hospital for their loving care and support.
A Celebration of Life Picnic will be held in Jim’s honor on August 26, 2017 at the Cottonwood Lodge in Churchville Park from 3pm – 8pm . There will be food, fun and laughs just as Jim wished!
