Gates, New York: James (Jim, Jimmy) Mitchell Mars, age 82, passed away peacefully at home, in Gates, New York, on March 2, 2021, He was born on March 21, 1938 to Wiebe and Shirley (Anderson) Mars, in Muskegon, Michigan.
Jim served in the Air Force and retired from GM/Delphi as an engineer. Jim passionately enjoyed building engines for stock and drag racing. His biggest enjoyment was building street rods and driving them anywhere the road would take him. He always said, “If you see my street rod being towed, it was stolen and call 911”. He belonged to several street rod clubs over the years, where he met lifelong friends.
Jim will be dearly missed by his wife of 27 years, Linda (Crandall); his daughters Michelle (Kris Hoffman) Primmer, Sue (Joe) McElvaney, Chris (Matt) Clark and his grandchildren, Connor and Cammie Clark; his brother- and sister-in-law Ray and Mary Smith and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Doug and Rick; two sisters Barbara Duff and her husband Jim, and Marilyn Hittle and her husband Merle; and grandson Kenny Primmer, Jr.
Jim had a special place in his heart for Missy Tuesday and Skipper. He enjoyed seeing all their pictures and videos, it brightened his last days.
According to Jim’s wishes, there will be no services and a cremation has taken place. But he never said we couldn’t have a party…details will follow this summer.
