Jonathan (Jon) Jay Dubner , age 59, passed away unexpectantly on February 28, 2022. Jon was born on April 2, 1962, in Rochester, NY where he was raised. He later moved to Webster, NY.
Jon held a variety of jobs early in his career, mostly in the service industry, where his welcoming and gregarious personality resulted in countless friends in and around the City of Rochester. Later, Jon settled into a senior accounting position for PathStone, a private, not-for-profit community development and human service organization, where he worked for 23 years. At PathStone, Jon could apply his professional finance and accounting skills within an organization whose purpose he believed in strongly – improving people’s lives.
Indeed, that is what Jon did for everyone he met – he improved their lives. If you were to ask his huge list of friends how they would describe Jon you would hear: “a big man with an even bigger heart, beautiful, kind, warm, loving, funny, passionate, giving, and cheerful”.
Jon wore his heart on his sleeve and everyone he interacted with felt special. He loved music, good food, comedy, and friendships. He was a great cook with a passion for barbeque, a coffee connoisseur, and a lover of animals and birds. He was often referred to as a ‘gentle giant’. He touched so many lives in the Rochester community that Jonathan could not go anywhere without running into someone he knew. He would greet them with a boisterous ‘hello’ and a big hug. Most of all, he loved his wife Joni with all his being. Their love story is one for the ages. Jon’s untimely passing will leave a hole in her heart and the hearts of so many people.
Jon was predeceased by his mother and father Nancy and Hillel Dubner and his older sister Jollene Dubner. Jon is survived by his wife Joni VanDelinder Dubner. He’s also survived by his ‘Baby Sis’ Susan Dubner VanBenschoten, his brother-in-law Wayne VanBenschoten, and his nephew and niece Nathan and Hannah VanBenschoten.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations in Jon’s name can be made to Wayne County Humane Society https://waynehumane.org/donate/ or Wild Wings, Inc. https://www.wildwingsinc.com/product-page/donation .
