Lisa Jean Mills, beloved mother, wife, sister, and aunt, lost her courageous battle with adrenocortical carcinoma on April 7th, 2025. She was a particularly loving and generous person. Heaven will benefit from her presence.
Lisa was born in Burlington, VT to Dorothy and Martin Mills on February 20, 1959 at 2:20 pm. Lisa is survived by her husband Malcolm Schinstine and daughter Victoria Sakae Schinstine. She also has 4 surviving sisters [Sharon Caswell, Andrea Mills, Meredith Johnson (husband Jonathan), and Victoria Loven (husband Frank)] and 2 surviving brothers [Stephen Adams (wife Ida) and Eric Mills].
Lisa grew up in the Hollow of North Ferrisburg, VT. She graduated from Vergennes High School in 1977 before enrolling at Endicott College in MA. She only spent a year at Endicott before finishing her bachelors degree in Radio and Television at Lyndon State College in 1981.
Lisa spent several years working in radio as on air talent and a program director before transitioning to medical transcription. She began this new line of work in TN. Little did she know that this early move to another state would be a prelude to many moves to come.
After a divorce, Lisa moved back to VT to work as an administrative assistant in the Department of Dermatology. It was there that she met her husband of 25 years Malcolm Schinstine who was in medical school and doing a rotation in dermatology. Together, they raised a wonderful daughter, Victoria (Tori). Tori will be graduating from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Game Design and Development in May 2025.
During their marriage, Lisa, Tori, and Malcolm lived in many varied, some exotic, places. After Malcolm graduated from medical school, he and Lisa moved to Hummelstown, PA. After only a year, the couple moved to Wilder, VT. It was here that Tori was born at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. After Wilder, the family moved to Edmond, OK. This was followed by moves to Hakalau, HI, Hellertown, PA, Calgary, AB Canada, Reno, NV, back to VT (Richmond), and finally to their current residence in Webster, NY. Lisa always made friends in the new places she lived. The different locations also offered her family opportunities for vacationing.
Lisa enjoyed the outdoors. She loved to hike and kayak, but she particularly loved to bike. She enjoyed biking everywhere, but the Erie Canal Trail offered a long and safe pathway. Her dream was to bike the entire Erie Canal Trail. Malcolm and Lisa also enjoyed a trip to Utah in 2023. There they hiked Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Canyonlands National Parks. The couple also finally made it to Europe in 2024 visiting The Netherlands and Belgium.
Lisa has left us much too soon. She is much loved and will be tremendously missed. Her final move is to join our heavenly Father. We know she is in a better place and in peace. We love you Lisa.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage family and friends to donate to Webster Comfort Care Home at 700 Holt Road, Webster, NY 14580. They provided Lisa with excellent care in her final moments.
A memorial service will be held in North Ferrisburg Methodist Church, 227 Old Hollow Rd., North Ferrisburg, VT on June 14th at 11 am. All those who loved and cared for Lisa are invited to pay their respects.
