Mary Helen Hetzel Black Hawk, 91, formerly of Big Flats, NY, passed away at the Webster Comfort Home on March 3, 2025, with her daughters at her side. She was born on May 6, 1933 to John and Rachael Hetzel of Liberty, Pa. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, George, Carl and Daniel, as well as her sister Florence.
Mary was the heart of our home and family. She raised two daughters, Pamela (James) and Julie (Henry) in a happy and loving home to be independent and thoughtful adults. Mary was married for 45 years to her soulmate, Robert, who preceded her in death. Later in life she married Bill Hawk, who also preceded her in death. As a grandmother to Tasha and Jenna, she was a fun gramma who took them on cruises and to DisneyWorld regularly, and generally enjoyed spoiling them rotten.
She found much pleasure in her active involvement in the United Methodist Church throughout her life. She was a District officer of the United Methodist Women for 8 years, and a conference officer for 6 years, while she resided in Big Flats, NY. As a member of Ocala West United Methodist Church, she served for 4 years as President of the United Methodist Women there and continued to be an active member of the group until she moved to Victor, NY.
Professionally, she was Secretary/Treasurer of Ken Bruielly Plumbing & Heating in Corning, NY for 17 years. When this business was sold to Postler & Jaeckle of Rochester, NY she became the Office Manager and held that position until retirement.
But Mary is best known by her friends and family as a loving, supportive and caring person who had an extraordinary gift for nurturing deep, lasting relationships with those around her. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Life will be held at the Addison of Fairways on April 5th, 2025 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Webster Comfort Care Home, 700 Holt Road, Webster, NY 14580
