Rochester, NY: Mary J. Wymes, a long-time Montauk resident, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 just shy of her 92 nd birthday.
Mary was born in Ireland on October 22, 1926; she migrated to New York City when she was 7 years old. Mary graduated from St. Vincent High-school and later married John Wymes in 1950. The family built a house in Montauk in the 1960’s and lived there until 2010 when she moved to Rochester, NY to live with her daughter Christine.
Mary always loved Montauk with all her many friends, the Montauk Ladies Auxiliary, and St. Therese of Lisieux Church. Mary worked many jobs in Montauk; Whites Dept. Store and Montauk Light House being some of her favorites.
Mary is survived by her son William Wymes (Winnie), daughter Christine Bamford (Larry), and son Robert Wymes (Laura). She has seven grandchildren (Heather, Shaun, Irene, Emma, Charlotte, Ryan, and Jack) and two great-grandchildren (Reece and Remy).
There will be a service at St. Therese of Lisieux Church on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
