March 19, 1927 – February 6, 2024

Mary Hungerford passed peacefully February 6, 2024, with her family at her side. She was a resident of St. Ann’s Community, Rochester, NY.

Mary is survived by her son James (Kathy), daughters Mary Ann Hungerford and Kathryn Casey, and her son-in-law Tom Casey, special to her for his frequent visits and comedic storytelling. In addition to her children, Mary is survived by her grandchildren Mary Teague, Katie (Patrick) Commins, Sean Hungerford and Ali (Eric) Beatty, seven great-grandchildren: Finn, Dylan and Cora Teague; Grace, Henry, Sophia, and Robert Commins; as well as her niece and nephews Ann, Tom and Rob Spearing.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Thomas E. Hungerford in 2003, her mother Gertrude Connell McCready and father James L. McCready, sisters Gertrude McKendry, Madelyn Spearing, Kate Donnelly and brothers John, Lawrence and James.

Mary was raised in Olean, New York; she graduated from Olean High School (1945) and Rochester Business Institute (1947). In Olean she worked as a telephone operator and at the DEC, before her marriage to Thomas E. Hungerford in 1950 at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Olean.  She lived in Bolivar, New York for the next 65 years where she was a member of St. Mary’s Church and its Altar Society.

Mary had an infectious laugh that could be heard across the room. Born two days after St. Patrick’s Day, she was proud of her Irish heritage.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial and a memorial gathering at a later date. She will rest beside her husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bolivar, New York.
