Maryann O’Pray

d. June 9, 2018

Irondequoit, NY – Maryann passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the age of 82 with her niece and nephew-in-law by her side.

Maryann was born on August 15, 1935 in Flushing, NY, the firstborn child of Hugh M. and Helen F. (Schmidt) O’Pray. She grew up in the Bronx and had many fond memories of her youth. Maryann graduated from SS. Peter and Paul School, Bronx, NY in 1949 and Cathedral High School, New York, NY in 1953. She went on to pursue a career in office work.

Maryann retired from the New York State Department of Labor in 1995 after 19 years of service at various locations throughout the state, including ten years with the Unemployment Tax Service office in Rochester. She enjoyed traveling and would research the history, culture, customs, and even geology of the places she intended to visit. She had an affinity for the American Southwest and made frequent visits to the area. At home, Maryann was an avid crocheter and freely shared her creations from baby layette sets to prayer shawls with anyone who had need or desire for them. She was both a music and movie buff and had an extensive collection of both. Named after Our Blessed Mother Mary and Mary’s mother, Saint Ann, Maryann had a special devotion to Our Lady and prayed the rosary every night.

Predeceased by her nephew, Michael (Regina) Civiletti, Maryann is survived by her sister, Dorothy Civiletti, her nephew, Joseph (Peggy) Civiletti, Sr., and her niece, Patricia (Mark) Clemens as well as four grandnephews, Joseph (Heather) Civiletti, Jr., Joshua (Kimberly) Civiletti, Paul Civiletti, and Brian (Anna) Clemens; four grandnieces, Eileen-Margaret (Joshua) Churchill, Marie Grimes, Angela Civiletti, and MollyLucille Clemens; two great-grandnephews, Johnathon Civiletti and Darcy Churchill; two great-grandnieces, Jessica Civiletti and Amara Grimes; and her dear friend since childhood, Rita Brady.

Maryann will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed. A Celebration of Life will be held for her in Chapel Hill, NC at a yet to be determined date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
