Michael J. “Wahoo” Stanton, 63, of Warners, NY, passed away peacefully on January 16th at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.
Michael was born on May 24, 1959 in Syracuse NY. In July of 2019 he was diagnosed with MDS and had a stem cell transplant on September 14, 2021. The transplant was a success but in October 2022 he had unrelated medical complications. He truly was a warrior and fought until the end.
Michael was a US Army veteran. He was employed with System Freight until September 2021. He was so proud of his Native American heritage. Michael loved to ride his Harley with anybody and everybody who wanted to ride, “Kickstands up at 8!” He especially loved riding in the mountains of Virginia. Michael liked to have a good time with a cold beer in his hand and boy could he dance. He loved all music, especially The Allman Brothers Band and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. We will all miss his smile!
Michael was predeceased by his parents, James R. and Clara M. Stanton. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Emma (Drequan), sons Michael, Keith and Cody, his brother James (Karen), sisters Susan (Gary) and Jill (Timothy), grandchildren Charles, Andrew, Drelyn and Drequan, Aunt Beverly, several cousins, nieces and a nephew.
Michael requested a “Celebration of Life” to be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to Michael’s favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
