Richard Scott Congdon

May 29, 1964 — February 9, 2025

Rochester

Richard Scott Congdon, 60, from Fairport, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 9, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Richard (Rich) was born in Rochester, New York on May 29, 1964. After graduating from Fairport High School in 1982, Rich worked as a maintenance engineer at Saint Joe’s Parish in Penfield, NY and a school/parish in Binghamton, NY. He then relocated to Largo, Florida to be near his parents, grandparents, and uncles. He worked many years for various health care organizations until he suffered a back injury on the job. Complications from back surgeries rendered him unable to work and caused a domino effect of health issues that brought him to an early death. He was far too young to die, but is now out of the suffering he endured for many decades.

Rich had a true passion for music and movies that he loved to enjoy with family and friends. He had an unbelievable level of knowledge about different genres, artists, bands, and lyrics that spanned decades worth of songs. Some of his favorite musicians and groups included: ABBA, ELO, Pink Floyd, Eagles, CCR, Men Without Hats, Chet Atkins, Ronnie Milsap, Level 42, The Oak Ridge Boys, Pet Shop Boys, The Judds… honestly too many to name. He had quite the collection of vinyl records, cassette tapes, 8 track tapes and CD/DVDs. He also spent decades collecting clocks, model airplanes, Coca Cola and Looney Tunes memorabilia. Rich loved comedy of all forms, from stand up to movies, TV series, and cartoons. He had a movie quote ready for just about every situation, and a true gift of making people laugh.

Richard is survived by his mother, Brenda DeVuyst, sister Dawn Gerlach, nephew Noah Gerlach (fiancé, Hailey Niles), many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Ron DeVuyst, Grandparents George and Lorna Ware and uncles and aunts.

A funeral service will be held later in the spring/early summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to weareallmusic.org (WAAM), a 501(c)3 organization.
