Rita C. Hewitt, a treasured wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 at the age of 97. Born on January 25, 1928, to Henry and Eva Legault of Massena, New York, Rita was one of nine girls raised in a close-knit family. Her upbringing instilled in her the values of love, resilience, and unity that she carried throughout her remarkable life.
Rita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jerry Hewitt, with whom she built a wonderful life together. She is survived by her son, Brian Hewitt, and her daughters, Ann Hager (Rick) and Karen Moxham, as well as seven adored grandsons, Kirk and Aaron Hewitt, Ryan, Benson and William Hager and Benjamin and Zachary Moxham, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Carvel and Betty Fabrizio (Tony) and many nieces and nephews.
Rita was devoted to creating a warm and welcoming home and she loved to create delicious meals and amazing desserts to share with her family and friends. Her famous “monster chocolate chip cookies” were the highlight of her grandchildren’s visits and she made every meal feel like a special event. She loved to decorate for the holidays and spent endless hours in her beautiful flower gardens that surrounded her home. Rita left an indelible mark on her loved ones and her legacy, shaped by nearly a century of grace and kindness, will live on through all who were fortunate to know her.
A memorial service will take place at Saint Jerome’s Church in East Rochester on April 11th, 2025 at 11:00am.
