Rochester NY: July 27, 2018. Sammy Jordan was born in Fort Deposit, Alabama on October 31 st 1944 to the union of J. C. Jordan and Betty Jordan. He relocated to Rochester, NY in 1962.
Iman or Shooey as he was called by some close friends he attended Madison High school after he moved to Rochester. Around 1968 he enlisted into the military. He was stationed in Germany. He returned and did various jobs. Sammy was an avid reader of many books. He was a seeker of Knowledge. He met Rose Conley in 1972 to this union three children were born. Torrance L. Jordan, Benita J. Jordan, Jeremy L. Jordan aka lil Shooey. Sammy did a 2 nd tour in the United States Army in 1974 in San Antonio Texas. In 1979 Sammy took over Van Shoe repair shop on Genesee St. Van trained Sammy how to repair shoes and run a business. This is when Sammy excelled in giving his customer whatever he could do for them in the various skills that he provided such as dying Timberlands, Wallabees and taking the metal shank out of boots.etc. While repairing boots Sammy took an interest in-parting knowledge to youth and young adults to try to help them improve their quality of life. Sammy found joy in knowing that his words help those in need improve their circumstance.
Sammy was predeceased by his Mother Betty Thomas and Father J.C Jordan, his two brothers Ralph and Charles Jordan, as well as his granddaughter Tatianna Adams. He leaves to cherish his memory his Siblings, Mary A. Hall, Joyce, Perry, and Ivory Jordan, and Tommy Thomas. His Wife Rose, son, Torrance Jordan (Kiyomi), daughter Benita Jordan, son Jeremy Jordan. Grandchildren; Ayanna, Jaylen, Jael, Kaito, Tyshawn, Aimi, and Sky. A special friend Patricia Knight and a host of Nieces and nephews Cousins and Friends.
