Stephen J. Yacoub

d. April 27, 2023

Stephen J. Yacoub, 47, of Webster, passed away Thursday, April 27th, 2023.

Steve was born in Rochester, NY on March 10, 1976. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Amy Yacoub; his amazing children, Angelina Yacoub, Quinn Yacoub, and Zachary Warner; his extended family; and a wide community of wonderful and supportive friends, colleagues, neighbors, and mentees.

Steve had an early calling to help people. As a lifeguard at the age of 18, Steve saved an 8-year old boy from drowning and received a commendation from Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson. Steve went on to work in healthcare for over 25 years as a Registered Nurse. He was an exceptional caregiver to a multitude of patients. His nursing team members adored him for his kindness, his tenacity, and his advocacy.

Steve was also an accomplished pianist, a talented visual artist, a skilled carpenter, a brilliant techie, an amazing cook, and a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan. But perhaps the greatest passions of his life were fitness, weight lifting, bodybuilding, and Strongman events. Steve coached others to become their best selves and reach beyond their mental limitations.

Steve was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer on April 1, 2020. Between numerous doctor’s appointments, over 40 rounds of chemotherapy, 15 radiation treatments, 6 surgeries, and frequent travel to and from Syracuse and New York City for treatment, Steve found time and energy to continue his support of others. He raised money for people touched by cancer and hosted the first annual Cancer Hope Strong Strongman/Strongwoman competition to benefit two families impacted by the disease.

In 2021, Steve started the podcast, Cancer Hope with Coach Steve . Through his podcast he was able to connect with countless fellow cancer warriors all over the world and spread his message of hope, joy, and perseverance through adversity. He brought inspiration to so many with his mantra: “Never Surrender.”

Steve’s proudest achievement, however, was his family. Steve loved Amy and his children from the depths of his soul and was deeply proud to be a husband and father. He loved fiercely and fought for every second to stay with them on this Earth. He will forever be remembered for his will to live life to the fullest and his profound strength.

In lieu of flowers, and to keep Steve’s legacy alive, the family requests donations be made to the second annual Cancer Hope Strong benefit. Details about the event will be posted to Steve’s facebook page as soon as details are confirmed.

A Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends will be held Sunday, May 21st, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Roger Robach Community Center at Ontario Beach Park (Charlotte Beach).
