Stephen “Steve” Francis Hoellrigl

d. February 5, 2024

Stephen “Steve” Francis Hoellrigl (May 21st, 1947 – February 5th, 2024)

Steve passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2024, at the age of 76. He is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Scalise, and two children, Clint and Nadia Hoellrigl.

Steve was a lifelong Rochesterian, graduated from East High School in 1965, and served in the Army Reserves. He earned an associate degree in Accounting from Monroe Community College and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Rochester Institute of Technology. He’ll be remembered as a devoted father, loving husband, and friend to everyone he met. Steve enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, catching a bite to eat at the many diners in Rochester, playing video poker, and traveling to Las Vegas. Steve loved watching every single episode of Seinfeld, The Sopranos, NCIS, and Big Bang Theory, as well as shows and old western on MeTV. He cared for a stray cat that left him a kitten who kept him company during the last few years of his life and every dog that he met loved him. Steve was a kind, funny, and charismatic man who loved his family and friends unconditionally, and relished in enjoying the simple things in life. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life in Rochester, such as co-owner of Yankee Maid Sub Shop and Silk Plants Etc., and is most well known for being a bartender for 39 years at the former Rochester Riverside Hotel on East Main Street. He loved socializing with everyone he met at work and would never retire if he could help it.

Steve will be deeply missed by his family and all of his friends whom he considered family. A heartfelt thank you to the medical staff who took care of him during his illness, particularly his primary care doctor, Dr. Diego Cahn-Hidalgo, who took great care to visit and check-in weekly. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Disabled American Veterans ( https://www.dav.org/ ) or Lollypop Farms ( https://www.lollypop.org/ ) would be appreciated.
