Tommy Edward Jensen of Hamlin, age 66, passed away on May 16, 2020.
Predeceased by parents Alfred D. and Betty A. Jensen; Grandson Nicholas A. Wright; Brothers, David and Danny Jensen; and Sister Patricia Salleby.
Survived by Wife Karen Izyk Jensen; Daughter Joy (Kenny Neville) Johncox, and Justine (Mark) Wright; Grandchildren Curtis, Hannah, and Chloe Johncox, Jackie and Zach Neville, Matthew Wright, and Ashlyn Shamblin; Sisters Mary (Ronald) Hinkley and Kathi Buchiere; Brothers Sean (Brenda) Jensen and Joseph Jensen; a large extended family, and many good friends.
Tom worked at Advance Auto Parts in Brockport, NY. Tom also served for a short time in the United States Air Force.
Tom was born and raised in Walker, NY after which he moved to Hamlin where he lived with his wife of 40 years and raised his children. Tom was very active in the community. He was a past president of Hamlin Volunteer Ambulance Corps and worked tirelessly to get the current building completed. He also served on the Hamlin Planning Board, the Wind Tower Committee, Town Code Revision, and Hamlin Master Plan. Tom enjoyed working with the Hamlin Recreation Department on the School of Screams and Scream Fest. Tom’s greatest pleasure was seeing the smiles on children’s faces when he volunteered his time to be Santa. He worked with the Hamlin Library, The VFW, the Recreation Dept for Hamlin and Parma, and Lowes.
Numerous hours of Tom’s time was devoted to the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. Tom was a life member of Hamlin VFW Auxiliary Post #6703 and was serving as president at the time of his passing. Tom was an avid part of the Poppy fundraising done each year. He served on a number of committees and positions within the organization.
Tom was an avid fisherman. He also tremendously enjoyed decorating for holidays, with big emphasis on Halloween and Christmas. In his younger days, he would spend time hopping trains with his brother Danny, cousin Glenn, and friends Kevin and Steve.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 8, 2020 at the Hamlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6703 at 2 PM located at 1739 Lake Road Hamlin, NY 14464.
