Anne Catherine Griffith Smith passed away on September 19, 2022 at the age of 86, in Rochester, NY. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Larry D. Smith, two children; Penny A. Smith-Giguere, and Douglas S. Smith, and one granddaughter, Heather G. Giguere. She is survived by two sisters; Dorothy Sonnichson and Dorrice Hammer, and predeceased by one sister, Elizabeth, with 7 surviving nieces and nephews.
Anne retired at 75, after a lifetime of work organizing her employers. Educated at the Rochester Business Institute, she worked in several Real Estate offices before joining her husband as Office Manager in his Consulting Engineer business, where they worked together for over 20 years.
Family and friends were a large part of Anne’s life. She was an avid letter writer, and kept every card and letter ever addressed to her in return. She collected stamps from an early age, dolls, figurines, and recipes. Later in life she became fascinated by genealogy, meticulously researching family connections all the way back to our European roots, using the internet to track down and correspond with distant relatives there, and in far reaching corners of the United States.
Anne loved tropical vacations, reading, Community theater, Theater organ concerts, gazing at “dancing diamonds” and taking sailboat rides from their Conesus Lake cottage, Family and High School reunions, carousel horses and sunflowers.
As her health declined, she found great enjoyment challenging “Alexa” to play obscure musical selections and asking it difficult questions. Nothing pleased her more than stumping it.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center for their loving support and care of her and our family during the final week of Anne’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation in Anne’s name to the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY 14626 or Senior Options for Independence (SOFI), Fairport Baptist Homes, 4646 Nine Mile Point Road, Fairport, NY 14450.
Interment and a celebration of Anne’s life will be held privately by the family
