Pittsford, NY – June 11, 2022, at age 73. Barbara is predeceased by parents, Alfred and Loraine Schaeffer of Rochester. She is survived by Bruce, her husband of 51 years; her sister Carolyn Schaeffer, her “rock” and best friend; and sons Bradley and Aaron Eakins.
She is a 1991 graduate of Nazareth College with her Master’s Degree in Science and Education, and served as a special education teacher at Honeoye Falls-Lima School District from 1993 to 2010. She “loved all of her students, they were all good”.
Barb also loved and cared about all animals, especially her canine best friend, Lilly. She was an advocate for pet adoption and supported Rochester Animal Services Center. She enjoyed riding bicycles, kayaking, and playing catch in the backyard. She was a Buffalo Bills fan (Go Bills!), a NASCAR fan, a college football fan, and a baseball fan – especially the Yankees. She spent many afternoons with Bruce at Frontier Field cheering on the Rochester Red Wings. She loved the 7th inning stretch. “Take Me Out to The Ballgame” was a tune you might hear from her at any time, whether during a game or enjoying an Abbott’s Frozen Custard by the beach. She was a talented artist and entrepreneur, and a wonderful host for occasions big and small. Holidays and Birthdays were guaranteed to be filled with special touches and her unparalleled gift wrapping skills.
Barbara has asked for a small Graveside Service with immediate family at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. Thank you to Hospice for all the caring and support through this time. Thanks also to Dr. Baumgart and Karen at URMC.
Barb would appreciate any kindness you can afford toward an animal in her honor: adoption, affection, and protection of animals meant so much to her. If you want to do more, contributions to your local animal adoption program would be greatly appreciated. I remember her enthusiasm for her work, sports, and hobbies listed above. Barbs good cooking and hospitality we’re often appreciated by her family. I’ll miss those shopping trips to Wegmans to load up on all sorts of yummy treats and dishes when we’d visit. Her interest in adventure, like biking trails around the Rochester area, or trying the kayak thing for a bit, was admirable. I am saddened by her passing and my love, condolences, and prayers to you all…Bruce, Carolyn, Brad, and Aaron. Grace and peace.
Bruce.
So sorry for your loss.
