Barbara Moore Curran

Barbara Curran - Penfield, NY - Rochester Cremation

Penfield, NY: After living with pancreatic cancer for two years, the beautiful, brave Barbara Moore Curran died on May 16, 2020. She was at home in the care of her loving and devoted husband Jed, son, Jordan and sister, Dawn. Barbara was a child of Howard and Katherine Moore. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her siblings Lloyd Moore, Reggie Moore, June Chapin, and Maxine Ricalton and brothers-in-law Gary Atkinson, Bob Ricalton, Ed Chapin, Harley Lincoln, and Todd Curran.

Barbara’s early life on the family farm in the north country of New York formed and shaped her love of the natural world, her strong work ethic, her devotion to family and friends and her connection to and respect for a very special way of life. At 18 she made her way to Rochester and embarked on the work of her life as a hair stylist extrodinare. From the salons at the Sibley’s and B. Forman department stores to Narcissus on Park Avenue, she made women (and men) look and feel beautiful and special. In the process, she formed life long friendships with her clients and probably could have qualified for a degree in psychology. She was a steadfast friend and in semi-retirement made home visits to many of her long time clients, bringing not just her scissors, but her caring companionship.

Her greatest joy and most treasured gift was her family. Listening to Jed’s and Jordan’s songwriting and music bought her much joy. Precious days of peace in the north county, beach vacations and lake weekends, holiday dinners, pool hangouts, showers, weddings all meant so much. She was also wonderful in the “everydayness” of family. Always the first to bring a meal, offer a ride or a shoulder to cry on. Of course, she was there for all of the kids’ first haircuts! Spring meant flowers, lots and lots of flowers. Summer meant fresh veggies and salads. Fall meant dried hydrangeas and inventive Halloween costumes. Winter meant Christmas Eve potatoes. We will never forget.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 37 years, Jed Curran and her children Jordan (Emily Fischer), Leah (Michael) Moon and her precious granddaughter Luna Curran. Also bereft at her passing are her sisters, Leota Lincoln, Virginia Moore and Dawn Atkinson , sisters-in-law Kay Moore, Catherine McCann(Ed Benati), Molly (Bill) Shafer, Karen Curran, and brother-in-law, Charles Curran. Her many nieces and nephews will remember her always.

Due to current circumstances a celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date. Please consider a donation in her memory to UR Medicine Home Care Hospice or Wilmot Cancer Center.

Jordan, I know your mom was essential in Adam’s life, I’m greatful. I’m sorry for your loss. When you lose a parent no matter your age you feel like an orphan. It’s hard to wrap your mind around the fact that it’s not fair, if it wasn’t for your mom you wouldn’t be here so how can you now exist without her 💔. Look for the signs of your mom they will be all around you, know she will always be with you, and your family.

Aunt Barb was an inspiration to me she was always happy and cared about everyone else before she tended to herself she handled everything she went through with grace and was always happy to just be with you or talk to you. She was always proud and happy with and for everything that she saw her whole family doing. She was always excited to see any of the news about the family and there with her words of kindness. There is no one like her and she will be missed. All our Love to You!

To Barbara, I know you , you put up a good fight against this cancer and didn’t want to hear u were going to die! Who does , no words , Your Jed and Jordan , and family were everything to you, and u were not only a great Hairdresser but u really cared about ur clients, How u used to cook extra for Angelina, she was going blind, living alone , so u always had nice dinners packaged up to take home , u can rest now and let go of any anxiety that life brings to us all , U will be missed forever , U have been a great friend to me and I am soo blessed to have had u in my life! I loved the stories of growing up in the north country, and ur great sense of humor, I will miss ur laugh, I do hope we can do this again in our next life, love to Jed ur wonderful husband and Jordan ur beautiful , wonderful son , that has ur best qualities,,

Barb was such an uplifting spirit! She cared about everyone who sat in her chair as she pampered us, listened to our troubles, and sent us on our way with a PERFECT haircut, a smile and a hug. I will always remember her infectious laugh and her kind words. She loved her family above all else. In these last difficult years she taught us how to live with tenacity and grace. Jed, Jordan and family, I am so sorry for your loss.
