Beryl Farwell Ash (Berry),born July 30, 1949, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2024 at the age of 74.
Daughter of Richard Dean Farwell (Diz) and Millie Farwell, Berry was raised in Belfast, NY. She grew up in a large, close family and her childhood was rich with tales of small-town life in Allegheny County, with the Genesee River in her backyard, and Rushford Lake a short drive away, where she was proud to show off her slalom water-skiing talent!
She had four boys, all within five years, and she said often that learning she was expecting was “always wonderful news.” She welcomed each child with anticipation and joy.
But she always had her eye on bigger and better things. She managed to put herself through an undergraduate degree at Nazareth College and a Master’s degree at Syracuse University (while raising four young sons on her own), earning a n MSW degree and life-long career as a therapist, counselor and humanitarian who was always ready to listen.
She learned early to advocate for herself, for her kids, her grandchildren, and always, her patients.
In 1976 she met Fletcher Ash, the love of her life.
They eventually married, and – until his untimely death in 1991- were inseparable.
She was a firecracker, so leaving us on the 4th of July is quite fitting.
Whether at a euchre table, golf course, or corn hole tournament, Berry brought her game! She was, most certainly, a contender.
She is survived by her beloved children- Garett (Cristin), Clay (Dannah), Kelby (Carin), and Yancee (MaryLynn), as well as many adored grandchildren.
Her siblings- Bob, Dick, Tom, Chuck, Roger, Nancy, Marybeth, and Patty, were a life-long source of pride and belonging.
She will forever be remembered for her spirit, her vivacious wit, and her never-ending devotion to her people.
Godspeed, Berry.
We know you’re finally flying.
We miss you so much Mom
Be at peace and give our love to Fletcher
Forever in our minds heart and soul
Yancee & MaryLynn Ash
Berry was a wonderful person. She left a mark on anyone she knew in a positive way. Berry not only listened but heard you. There will be an empty spot in my heart until we meet again.
Yancee and MaryLynn,
Love to you both during such a difficult time.
Love, Kath. O’Shea
Condolences to the family and her brothers and you are in my thoughts and prayers. She left a mark on me too . She will be missed . I grow up with the farewell.
We are so very sorry for the deep loss you all must be feeling. Having 3 sisters I can only imagine what this is like. I admired and liked Berry very much. She was always a pleasure to be around. I hope you take comfort knowing you can rely on each other to get you through this difficult time.
With our deepest sympathy, Jan and Wes Howland
