Blanche Sophie Herman died on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at the age of 82. She passed away peacefully at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY.
Blanche is survived by her daughter Vicki Kowalewski, and two sons, Russell (Mary) Herman and Bradley (Becky) Herman, and grandchildren, Randy, Bryan, Desiree, Daniella, Ethan, Aiden, and Bayley as well as many family and friends.
Blanche was born in Lackawanna, NY on July 5, 1940 to Stanley Bloom and Sophie (Wisniewski) Bloom. She grew up in Hamburg, NY and attended Frontier Central High School – Class of 1958. She worked as a school lunch lady, accounting clerk for various businesses, and finally a baker – serving the nuns at The Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph Convent in Hamburg for many years and was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Altar & Rosary Society.
She was a mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend to so many. She loved her family and friends without limits. She always put others first, before herself, and constantly prayed for everyone’s well-being. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a love of baking, gardening, and caring for others. She will be missed dearly.
Her family invites all family and friends to celebrate Blanche’s life at a Memorial Service on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 9:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Athol Springs (Hamburg), NY (4263 Saint Francis Dr., Hamburg, NY 14075).
Mom,
you were loved and are missed more than you can ever imagine. You were an AWESOME mom – in every manner that can be contemplated. You were a great role model for your children, and that will be passed down to your grandchildren, whom you wholeheartedly loved, and for generations to come. I just wish we had more quality time with you, as my move to N.W. Ohio 25 years ago made visiting difficult. Your work ethic was tireless, and i wish i had a bit of that energy that you always exuded, from cooking, baking, cleaning, to so much more. We are joyous knowing you are now in heaven with those that came before you, and free from any pain, and restored to full health again. Thanks for not giving up in your early battle with cancer when we were little, through a painful divorce, and giving us decades worth of good memories with you. You sacrificed yourself for your family in countless ways. Your faith, and love for polish inspired foods will be also passed down through the generations!

Vicki.
I was shocked and saddened by the news of your Mother’s passing. She was a wonderful, sweet woman.
When I think back quite a few years ago to the time we took a Line-dancing class together at the Hamburg High School. We had such a good time together. We were taking it for exercise and just enjoyed it so much.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers, Louise
We are so very sorry and sending you so much and prayers.
