Bruce James Vanek

Bruce James Vanek - Rochester Cremation

Bruce James Vanek passed away on January 29, 2024.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years Irene Fleming Vanek and his parents Eileen and James Vanek. He is survived by his devoted daughter Karen Vanek-Korn (Daniel Korn) and his grandchildren Gregory Korn and Jillian Korn (Curtis Hinterberger-Korn) who were his absolute pride and joy; his sister Rita (Joe) Kernan.

Born and raised in New Jersey, he joined the Navy and proudly served during the Korean war on the USS Forrestal as a 2nd Class Petty Officer radar man. He went on to earn a degree in Marketing from the University of Maryland and worked for 30 years at Eastman Kodak Company as the Database Administrator. Bruce loved athletics and was an avid skier, golfer and tennis player. He was both his grandchildren’s biggest hockey fan.

Bruce’s family would like to thank the Porter Place nursing staff at the Friendly Home for the care they gave him during this challenging time.

Per Bruce’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at a date to be determined.

Bruce was thrilled he went on an Honor Flight with his grandson.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to Honor Flight Rochester in his memory.

He had such a spirit and sense of humor!! I can still picture his hat collection in his room at Friendly Home. He was well loved and cared for by his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
