(Charlotte) Anne Abbey - Rochester Cremation

(Charlotte) Anne Abbey passed away peacefully Oct. 16, 2023 at Fairport Baptist Home. Born 1/22/33 in Smethport, PA, she was the daughter of Forrest and Anne Andrews Abbey. Anne was a graduate of Clarion University in PA and began her teaching career in Denver, Co. She then taught on an army base in Germany. Upon returning stateside, Anne attended the University of Oregon in Portland, where she studied and received a master’s degree in counseling. Her beloved mother joined her in this endeavor, where she often audited Anne’s classes and became a favorite of the other students.

Next education stop was Hilton, NY where Anne provided counseling and guidance to both students and teachers in elementary, jr. high, and high school levels. This became her career for the next 25 years. She was loved and respected by all.

Anne was a long-term member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was also a devoted volunteer at Bethany House and the Spiritus Christi Prison Ministry. She traveled extensively across the globe and treasured photo memories of China, Russia, Eastern Europe, Costa Rica, Argentina, Panama and all of the United States. Anne enjoyed Rochester Philharmonic performances, plays at Geva, playing bridge and many merry times with her friends. Her hearty laugh and sarcastic wit endeared her to many throughout her 90+ years. A Democrat through and through, Anne stood always for equality and justice. She was known for her liberal thinking and never backed down in any debate,

Anne is survived by beloved cousins, Kate, Michael, and Tom Browne of Montreal, Quebec and also by many devoted friends.

A celebration of Anne’s life will be held on Oct. 21, at 9:00 a.m. at Spiritus Christi Church, 121 N. Fitzhugh St. 14614. Donations may be made in Anne’s memory to Bethany House, 1111 Joseph Ave. 14621.

“Miss Abbey” was guidance counselor to my sister in elementary school and myself in high school, where her support and wisdom were invaluable. She was a long time friend to our family, and came to Sunday dinner. We reconnected at Spiritus Christi. Thanks for being a friend through the years, Anne

I am saddened to learn of Anne’s passing. We were good friends for so many years. As a counselor at Hilton she was very supportive of students attending the WE-MO-CO vocational school in Spencerport. We shared many, many jokes over the years and always had great visits when we got together. The world is a better place because of Anne’s presence. I will miss her and am sad that I cannot attend the celebration of her life. My prayers go out to all the family members. Anne, you are at peace…we will miss you.
