January 28, 2022: Penfield, NY: January 28, 2022 at age 85 peacefully at Shepherd Home in Penfield. Don is predeceased by his parents Homer and Ethel and his brother Ken. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Mary, sister Karen, son Don Jr. (Elaine), daughters Ann (Joe) and Jennifer, and 5 grandchildren James (Emily), Shawn, Brian, Scott, and Chris.
Don grew up in Hamburg, NY and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1954. Don enlisted in the service during Korea and was honorably discharged from the US Army Corp of Engineers. Don was a proud member of International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) – Local 17. Don was an active member of Salamanca American Legion Post 535, Salamanca VFW Post 5296, and Salamanca Holy Cross Athletic Club.
Don loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed hunting, working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing Euchre, feeding the birds in his backyard, watching wildlife programs, drinking a cold beer on a hot summer day, or simply tinkering in his garage. He was sarcastic with a wicked sense of humor, and he will be greatly missed.
There will be no services per Don’s request but a Celebration of Life will be held for the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Shepherd Home, Penfield NY, in memory of Don Lewis, where compassionate volunteers, nurses, and staff provided comfort care in his final days.
Sending our thoughts and prayers to your family.
