Emily Jayne Casey (Cloonan)

Emily Jayne Casey (Cloonan) - Rochester Cremation

Emily Jayne Casey (Cloonan) passed away surrounded by family on 2/22/2024 after a brief battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). She is survived by her loving husband Allen, beloved children Liam Henry and Elizabeth Rose (Libby), parents Billy and Kathy Cloonan, brothers Billy Cloonan (Leigh) and Brendan Cloonan (Jamie), Grandmothers Mary Cloonan and Barbara Shelley, in-laws Al and Diane Casey, Sister-in-Law Erin Robinson (John), her cherished Corgi, Winston, along with a crew of friends, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Emily was born and raised on Long Island in Northport, NY, and earned her undergraduate degree in education from SUNY Geneseo. Upon graduation, she moved to Rochester and made it her new home, finding a great group of friends and an active social life. While earning her master’s degree at St John Fisher College, she worked for the Brighton School District. Emily has been an educator at Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women since 2014, most recently as chair of the Social Studies department. She loved all her students and took great pride in their accomplishments, staying in contact with graduates for many years. She was a beloved and respected educator and colleague. She will be greatly missed by administration, faculty and students alike.

Emily and Allen met on New Year’s Eve in 2014 and were married at the Genesee Valley Club in September 2017, surrounded by a group of family and friends from every stage of her life. They honeymooned in Barcelona, and then built an idyllic life living in the North Winton Village with days consisting of caring for their dogs, entertaining, and traveling. Liam was born in May of 2020, and they moved to Pittsford, quickly pivoting to a family-centered life. They welcomed Libby in March of 2023, and have just begun to see her grow.

Her true passion was being a mother to her two children. She took great pride in everything they did and was always their biggest advocate. Emily’s devotion to her family and her unwavering spirit will forever be remembered. Though she may be gone, her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved.

The family would like to thank all who have reached out, sharing memories, prayers, and gifts.

A fund has been set up for the continuing education of Emily and Allen’s children, along with creating a scholarship in her name at Mercy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made towards the fund via GoFundMe or mailed to:
