Rochester, N.Y.: Eugene Startup 69, passed away on June 18, 2020 at his home in Rochester, NY.
He was born on October 25, 1950 in Port Jervis, N.Y. Son of the late Raymond Startup and Marlea (Bunting) Startup.
Eugene was a graduate of Arlington High. Upon graduating he was employed by I.B.M. East Fishkill, N.Y. Shortly after starting IBM, Gene and Francine Ricker were married and had a daughter Darby. Gene then took leave from IBM to serve his country by enlisting in the Air Force for four years. During that time Gene was joined in the Philippines at Clark AFB by his wife Francine and daughter Darby. They returned to Beacon, N.Y. after his service and to continue his career with IBM. In 1988, IBM moved the family to Colorado, where Gene retired from IBM after 25 years as a programmer.
Gene loved the outdoors and the Rocky Mountains, his cowboy hats and all sports, skiing, camping, motorcycles, dirt bikes, hang gliding, hiking and was happy spending time with family and many friends.
Gene is survived by his present wife Mary Pat (Spignola) Startup of Florida. His daughter Darby (Hyde) of Louisville, CO. also two grandchildren, Haley Hyde and Benjamin Hyde of Colorado, his brother Bart Startup of Connecticut, along with several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his brother Raymond Jr., sister, Marlea Fullerton along with his parents.
A private Cremation has been selected at the discretion of his family.
This really saddens me. I haven’t seen Gene for probably 54 years, but my memories of him were always of laughter. He could crack me up in an instant. It seems like he had a really wonderful life, and that makes me glad. I just wish that fun spirits like Gene would never die. All of you close to Gene these years, I wish you sweet memories and gentle healing.
