Gary Bishop - Rochester Cremation

Gary Lee Bishop, 74, of Greece, NY, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2023 surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gary was born on August 14, 1948 in Endicott, NY. After he graduated from Madison High School in 1966, Gary pursued training as a tool and dye maker and machinist at Eastman Kodak. He retired from Kodak and with a friend opened up their own machine shop known as Machine Solutions.

Gary was predeceased by his mother, Betty Freeman, and his father, William Bishop. He is survived by his wife of 49 ¾ years, Peggy Madigan, his daughter Aimee (Matt) Sharpe and sons Timothy, Christopher (Lindsey) and Jeremy Bishop, six grandchildren: Maddy, Rachel, Alex and Charlotte Sharpe, Tyler and Olivia Bishop, sisters: Diana (Tom) Brookshire, Wanda (Glenn) Spurlin. Bonnie (Russ), brothers William (Paige) and Joel, several nieces and nephews.

Gary enjoyed being in the outdoors doing lawn work. He also enjoyed playing with the grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Golisano Children’s Cancer Center.

There will be no calling hours. Gary’s funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church at 3003 Dewey Avenue in Greece at 11 AM on Saturday, January 28th. Private burial will take place at a future date.

    Peggy and Family I’m sorry to hear about Gary’s passing. Nancy told me about it it made me very sad. We all had such a good time at camp. Just think maybe Bill and Gary and my Gary are all out on a lake fishing and having a good time. Be able to keep your memories close to your heart that is what helps me make it through the long days and cold night missing Gary so much. Take care of yourself and family my thoughts are with you.     Peggy my heart aches for you and your family. Gary fought above and beyond to stay with you but as we know it’s a hard disease to fight. I loved him so much as I do you and your family. He left us all with some special and lasting memories. It’s these memories that will help us heal and go on as he’d want us to do. Love you all and am always here for you all. Aunt Nancy Brown.

    Sorry for your loss Peg and family. Your dad was a great partner. He had a sense of humor with quotes that often came out and would put me in stitches. One time on vacation I asked if he wanted to go snorkeling. His response was”If I wanted to taste salt I would have ordered a Margarita”. Despite all he had to deal with, he never lost the chance to make someone’s day. Glad we had time together to get back to our roots. He will be missed
