Helga M. Post

Helga Post - Rochester, NY - Rochester Cremation

Rochester, NY: September 25, 2020 at age 72, has sadly passed while embraced by her loving family. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grammy, Sister and Friend.

Predeceased by her parents, Rudolf and Elfriede Schafer, and her twin boys, Robert and Andreas Rousseau. She is survived by her devoted husband Alfred A Post Jr, the love of her life. Her children: Carolyn (Robert) Quitaldi, David (Pamela) Post, Nicole (Jason) Weltzer, and her grandchildren, Christopher Quitaldi and Hannah Weltzer. Also, many nieces, nephews and beloved family and treasured friends. Her loyal furbabies: her “kitties” and Annie and Minnie: her two dogs that never left her side. Helga also sadly leaves behind family members in Germany, including her cherished Brother and Sister in law Andreas and Karin Schafer.

Helga was born in Germany, and at age 18, came to the United States with her newborn daughter, Carolyn. Although it was difficult to be so far away from her parents and younger brother, Andreas, she was eager to start a new life in America.

Recognizing the importance, Helga was fiercely determined to embrace the American culture and quickly became fluent in English. This independent and determined young woman quickly sought out employment. She started her career as a Teller with Marine Midland Bank. During this time had her second daughter, Nicole. Having a firm foundation in America, she studied hard and quickly earned her most proud accomplishment: becoming an American Citizen.

Her career took off and by the time she retired, after 27 years, she was an Administrator in the Estate and Trust department. During her time at the bank, she met and married the love of her life, Alfred.

Helga’s deep love for animals led her to become a licensed Dog Groomer. Helga, with the unwavering support of her husband, also began working in Animal Rescue. The passion to help animals quickly grew from volunteering a few hours a week to a full time position as President of the non profit, Animal Service League. Her accomplishments while President of Animal Service League, included the purchase of a building with funding from donations and trusts. This building provided a place to shelter homeless animals and ready them for adoption to their forever homes. The building was a work of love and endless hours of devotion. Helga never forgot the name of a single animal she rescued or cared for over the years. She acquired many lasting friendships and most were based on their mutual passion for animal rescue. However, her greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren, Christopher and Hannah. Helga’s compassion and love in her heart for others knew no boundaries. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you may consider a donation in her name to a charity that is close to your heart.

Her funeral mass will be at 10:00 am, Friday, October 2, 2020, at Holy Cross Church;  4492 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612.

I truly believe if our fur babies go to heaven Helga will be one of their caregivers. I will always remember our fun times all together in Rochester. The weekends we spent together. Saturday night visits, Sunday morning meeting for breakfast with tthe guys and our kids. Times with our other sister Cheri. Helga was a determined, strong women who taught that to her girls. May she enjoy her heavenly home until we are all together again. Love you, FLY high

Helga, we have lost a very dear person and special friend. I, for one, will miss the relationship and friendship we developed over the years. You will be sorely missed, but we all will cherish the memories

She loved her “Papa Jim” dearly, and when you got her and Dad out of the house exploring, those were some of the happiest days of her life and she talked about them so fondly.
Thank you for all the smiles and laughter you brought to mom’s life.

We met Helga through Animal Service League. My son Bryan and I would spend Friday’s at the shelter taking care of the animals. I learned a lot from Helga, she was patient and kind with her foster families and coached me through a few “crises” with ultimate calmness.
Helga, Bryan still has Jetta, aka Jeannette. She is the love of his life along with his other two cats. I still remember how you waived adoption fees for Jeannette because you knew Bryan would care for her deeply.
Hannah, we remember you as a little girl helping your grandmother at the shelter. She used to say you were the best helper she ever had.
Rest In Peace Helga, our sincerest condolences to the family who loves and misses her.

Dearest Family of Helga – she was my Facebook pal for years because of our adoration for cats. Helga warmed my heart year after year when she’d sign up faithfully to send cards to the special needs seniors that Guido my Animal Assisted Therapy cat and I volunteered with. at The ARC of San Francisco. Always signing up 1st to send cards throughout the year, her thoughtfulness always warmed my heart as well as they brought Smiles Across the Miles to the special needs seniors. The world needs more people just like Helga Post. I’m so sorry she’s ventured to Heaven but now Heaven is blessed with the best of the best – a true caring lovely lady. Guido & I send our heartfelt condolences to all of you.
