Herbert J. Conklin of Honeoye Falls, age 89, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Hildebrandt Hospice in Rochester.
Herbert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Peggy (Curry) Conklin from Geneseo, NY; his daughter Meg (Yossi) Gabay of Arizona; his grandchildren, Maya, Golan and Talya Gabay; and his sister, Sondra (Robert) Eddy, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Mt. Morris, NY in 1933 and preceded in death by his son, Edward Conklin, and his parents, Herbert and Dorothy Conklin.
In 1953, he joined the US Army 696th Ordnance in the Korean War. After his return, he became a precision tool & die maker at Taylor Instruments in Rochester, at which time he met his wife, Peggy, who he married in 1956. Herbert also attended night school at Rochester Institute of Technology. Retiring after 40 years, but not one to sit still for long, he became a realtor alongside his wife and later became an antique dealer. Herbert had a passion for hotrods, spending time with his son in Boy Scouts, and was a member of the local Presbyterian Church. He had an interest in local Native American archeology and history, and over the years became an expert in coin collecting, antiques and bottles. He enjoyed building and repairing things, and truly loved gardening and tending his lawn.
A military honor service will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 2 PM, at the Western New York VA National Cemetery in Pembroke, NY, where Herbert will be interred.
