James (Jim) Steven Graves, 72, of 4362 Canal Road, Spencerport, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, September 21, in his home.
He was born June 7, 1951, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of the late James E. and Jean M. (Jarboe)] Graves. Jim and his family moved from Indiana to Lakewood, N.Y. in 1966. He was a graduate of Southwestern Central School in 1969 and graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1973.
He taught grade school for many years in the Churchville-Chili Central school district.
Jim had many interests including golf, which he loved, listening to music, traveling with his late wife, Connie, and entertaining his grandchildren.
His golfing buddies, fellow educators, the basketball and golf teams he coached and his students at Churchville will remember Jim as deeply kind, supportive and warmhearted.
He is survived by 2 stepdaughters, Tera Thompson- Webster of Kenmore, N.Y. and Amanda Thompson (Megan Villanueva) of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Elliott, Silvie and Maia Webster; two sisters, Sherry (Robert) Kobel and Linda (Gary) Carlson of Jamestown, N.Y. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his late parents, his beloved wife, Connie (Lasch) Graves and a brother, Mark A. Graves of Jamestown.
A family graveside service will be held on October 7, in Hamlin, N.Y.
The family suggests that, due to Jim’s love of animals, memorial contributions could be made to Lollypop Farm Humane Society of Greater Rochester in Fairport, N.Y.
