James L. Gilmore

James Liam Gilmore, 49, formerly of Whitehouse, OH died unexpectedly November 25, 2015, in Batavia NY, en route to family Thanksgiving gatherings in Waterville and Perrysburg, OH.

Mr. Gilmore, former chairman of academic departments and instructor at Owens State Community College from 1997-2013, relocated to Lisbon, NY, in 2014, where he and his wife, Dorothee Gilmore, DVM, established Rivendell Equine Hospital. Mr. Gilmore was also currently an adjunct instructor at St. Lawrence/Lewis BOCES in Canton, NY.  Mr. Gilmore was born August 31, 1966, in Monroe, MI, a son of James D. (Lowrie) Gilmore of Waterville, OH and Christina (Charles) DeNunzio Giaimo of Perrysburg, OH. He married Dorothee Janssen on December 31, 2011, in Canton, NY.

He is survived by his wife; his parents; two sons, Christopher (Alyssa) of Perrysburg, OH, James D. of Ann Arbor, MI; a grandson, Bowen; brother, Jason (Rebekah) of Las Vegas, NV; stepsister, Beth (Andrew) Connelly of Rocky River, OH; stepbrother, Brent (Kristen Maez) Rutgers of Denver, CO, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gilmore earned M.Ed. and B.S. degrees in career and technology from Bowling Green State University where he was elected to Epsilon Pi Tau honor society. He was a graduate of Anthony Wayne High School.  He was a member of professional societies including American Welding Society, the Association of Technology Management and Applied Engineering and Great Lakes Manufacturing Committee.  At Owens, Mr. Gilmore was active in Jobs for the 21st Century program and chaired Coffee with President George W. Bush during his appearance in Ohio.  He was a volunteer and guardian trainer for Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio, a World War II re-enactor and “WWII history buff”.  Mr. Gilmore was a professional photographer and well known for his photographs of horses and equine competition events.

.A Memorial and Celebration of his Life will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Air Warrior Courage Foundation (www.airwarriorcourage.org) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
