February 13, 1939 to February 27, 2018
Honeoye Falls, NY: Janice Linda (Muir) Greene died at home on February 27th after battling cancer. We were blessed to have her in our lives and learned many valuable lessons from her during her 79 years, among them to love unconditionally with all of your heart, find the laughter everywhere because it presents itself often, spread joy, there’s no such thing as spoiling your grandchildren or loving your children too much, give freely of yourself and your time, do what is right, be kind, believe in yourself, protect others dignity, cherish the children, show compassion, and always (always!) keep the cookie jar filled. Her life was truly a living example that will provide her an express pass in Heaven.
Jan grew up in Syracuse where she met her husband of 55 years, Robert E. Greene. After their marriage they moved to Newark Valley where they raised their two children Heather and Cary. After retirement they moved to the Rochester area where she became known to one and all as “Nanny”, the world’s most wonderful grandmother, mother and wife.
The real and abiding passion in Jan’s life was her family. She is survived by a family who adored her: her husband, two children, son in law Bob Balmer, four loving grandchildren (Jada and Kara Balmer, Willow and Skye Greene), three sisters Maryellen Muir (Bob Summers), Donna (Jack) Delehanty, Marlene (Dick) Gallauresi, sister in law Barb Greene and many many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Vera Keanie Muir McCaffrey and Donald Muir.
Janice graduated from Syracuse Central High School and worked as an Administrative Assistant with top secret government clearance at IBM until her retirement in 1986. In her free time Janice was an artist who enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was an active volunteer in the community, a Deacon at the Presbyterian Churches in both Dryden and Mendon, a driver for Meals on Wheels, a caregiver at Benicasa Hospice, a patrol volunteer for the Neighborhood Watch and much more.
The family extends their sincere thanks to the U of R Home Hospice for their support and care, and ask that you spend time with your family, as that is what Jan would have wanted.
She often said that “every day is a gift… celebrate it”, our gift was having her in our life. At her request there will be no calling hours or funeral. Family and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate her life at the Rabbit Room in Honeoye Falls on March 25th from 1 to 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mendon Public Library or Food Link.
