Rochester, NY: Joan S. Paul passed away at Highland Hospital February 8, 2019, after a short illness. She was born on April 29, 1921 in Newman, Illinois.
She is survived by her sons Stephen (Deborah), and George (Barbara); grandchildren John (Chrysanthea), Chris (Shannon), James (Caitlyn), Jessica (Damon), and Timothy (Rachel); great grandchildren Joanna, Nicola, Thomas, Max, Nick, and Delano; nephew Larry (Peggy) and family; plus many dear friends.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Hazel Shell, husband John, and brother and sister-in-law Wilbur and Edith Shell.
Joan earned her teaching degree in 1943 and loved teaching children to read.
Joan and husband John lived in many places, including Oxford, Mississippi, Birmingham Alabama, Geneseo NY, and Williamsburg, VA. She always made a beautiful and welcoming home wherever she lived. Her last 7 years were in the Rochester, NY area.
Joan’s greatest joy was spending time talking with family and friends and sharing her life’s stories. Everywhere she went, Joan loved to strike up a conversation and turn a stranger into her new friend.
Services will be on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at 11:00 in the chapel at River Edge Manor Apartments, 535 Mt. Hope Ave, Rochester, NY.
