Bath, NY: Unexpectedly on 3/2/2022, our beloved mother, Joanne M. Barkley, decided that after 230 days on this earth without her loving husband she would join him in heaven.
Born 1/25/1944 the 5th child of William and Grace (Hollack) Hunter, she grew up in Corning until meeting her husband of 44 years, Kenneth Barkley. Together, they lived in the Bath, NY area until 2010 when they retired to Zephyrhills, FL.
Joanne loved to play cards and dominoes with family and friends. She was always making everyone around her laugh; her sense of humor was bar none top notch. All will miss her hilarious wit. She always gave more than she had, that’s how she and Ken were able to foster over 80 children in a 20-year period.
You might have heard her called: Hubbard, Mama, Edith, recently Queen, and of course dad’s favorites JCJ and Baby-O! She will always be our loving mother in our hearts.
Joanne is survived by her children William (Rebecca) Burguess, Kimberly Miller, Jody Wright, Florence (Andrew) Dininny, Kathy Phillips, 4 step-children, many grandchildren, a great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins, and several foster children that still call her mom.
Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her four siblings Joyce Creeley, Barbara Stoddard, Richard Hunter and Jack Hunter, her son George Barkley and grandson Robby Miller.
Per Joanne’s request there will be no services or celebrations. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her memory to your favorite charity.
