Joanne Marie Knapp (Eckrich) - Rochester, NY - Rochester Cremation

Rochester, NY: Joanne Marie Knapp (Eckrich), age 90, went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 12, 2020. She peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her loving husband Gerard Knapp and family.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 64 years, Gerard Knapp; her children, Robert (Sandi) Knapp, Mary (William) Milillo, Thomas (Melanie) Knapp, Judith Turnipseed, Beth (Ronald) Alkire, Joseph Knapp, William (Pamela) Knapp; 13 grandchildren,15 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ilonia Eckrich; brother, Thomas Eckrich; sister, Sue (Paul) Spindler and countless nieces, nephews and friends.

She is predeceased in death by her parents, Josephine and Howard Eckrich, brother Howard Eckrich, sister-in-law Patricia Eckrich, nieces Julie Eckrich and Deborah Eckrich, grandson Jerry Ebner.

Joanne was born in Rochester, New York in 1930. She graduated from Nazareth Academy in 1947 and then earned her pediatric nurse certification while working at the New York City Foundling. Joanne was married in 1955, blessed with seven children who she raised on a farm in Webster, NY. Upon retirement, they moved to Port Bay and enjoyed living on the water while spending winters in Florida. She was an avid reader, loved gardening and cooking. She was well known for her famous applesauce and apple kuchen. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St Mary’s of the Lake Church. Joanne was passionately involved with local support groups for mothers of children with special needs. She will be fondly remembered for her kind heart and gentle soul. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

A catholic mass and celebration of her life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St Mary’s of the Lake Church, 5823 Walworth Rd, Ontario, NY 14519.

    My sympathy to Joanne’s family. Joanne had been my babysitter when she lived on Kohlman St and I lived around the corner on Remington St. Had lost track of her and it sounds like she had a wonderful life and family. God bless her, Alice Adams McCrave
